Animation creation as a learning tool

Aim of the learning programme is to make learners familiarize with the basic techniques of animation creation; understand and explore how animation creation can be used in the classroom to foster learning. The method can be applied for various age groups and in different subject areas.

The course is linked to the formal CPD course for teachers and trainers preparing them for the national pedagogical examination and also for preparation of mentor teachers.

 

Credentialization

For this CPD course, 1 ECTS is issued. This reflects the learning hours of the course (30 learning hours).

  • define the terms used in animation creation and in animation pedagogy
  • apply animation creation technologies in the classroom work
  • create animated short movies
  • capitalize in their teaching on the added-value of using animation creation in the classroom
  • act as a facilitator rather than an instructor
  • foster the formative assessment of the learning process

Badge description

This badge is awarded to the participants of the online course titled “Using Animation Creation as a learning Tool”. Participants of the course got familiar with animation techniques, free softwares which can be used in the classroom and learned about the changed role of the teacher from an instructor to a facilitator.

The digital badge was issued to 5 learners in the first piloting round.

Challenges addressed:

Participants evaluated that the course was very much motivating, it is well adaptable to diverse learner groups, however students struggled with applying the changed role of the teachers, ie. change teaching role to act as a facilitator. They also noted that it was not easy to be an explorer.

Added value for the course author institution:

EU2020 and ET2020 both demands to create lifelong learners, workforce who can adopt to change, who are critical thinkers, strong in communication and in cooperation. Both EDEN and the Teacher Training Centre of the Corvinus University of Budapest aims to contribute to the above described goals by the Animation CPD course.

Memorandum of Understanding between Corvinus and EDEN has been signed. Corvinus intends to continue recognizing the online course in its formal education courses.

Teachers and trainers find it hard to become facilitators instead of instructors. The course places great emphasis on this aspect in order to promote exploratory learning environments in the schools and this way meet the expectations of the 21 century employers.

Description of the process:

Some students of the Teacher training Center participated voluntarily in the blended course Using Animation Creation as a Learning tool. The course took 30 hours altogether and students were awarded 1 ECTS for completion. Parts of the course were:

  1. Introduction into using animation creation in the classroom: • Basics of animation creation • Techniques of making animated movies • Tools of animation creation: softwares, equipment • Pedagogical aspects: impact on motivation; facilitator role of the teacher; 4Cs of 21st century education: creativity, critical thinking, cooperation, communication etc.
  2. Animation creation – individual and group activity
  3. Final exam: self evaluation and peer assessment
